About Bibhu Mohapatra

Bibhu Mohapatra is an internationally renowned Indian fashion designer, born in Odisha, India. He has been successfully designing women’s and jewellery collections, even before launching his eponymous label in 2008. As a graduate of F.I.T. in New York & recipient of the 1997 F.I.T. Critics’ Award for Best Evening Gown Designer, Bibhu’s career includes a tenure as design director at J. Mendel and dressing notable figures like Michelle Obama, as well as some of Hollywood’s elite.

On a personal note, Bibhu Mohapatra finds himself in a unique position to realise this collaboration. His father, C.R. Mohapatra, a visionary mechanical engineer, played a pivotal role in India’s post-independence industrialization, particularly within the steel sector. His career began in the 1950s at an iconic steel plant in Rourkela, developed in collaboration with German engineering giants like Siemens and Krupp, forming their main principles to what they are today.

His insights and exposure to German diligence and expertise left a lasting impression on him. He instilled in Bibhu a profound belief that, when it comes to technology and design, one can never go wrong with German expertise.
